SHAAS is your local Community Archaeology society. One of its aims is to help in educating, training and providing access to a wide range of archaeological techniques for those interested within the local community.

We can:

- arrange a visit to our excavation for local youth groups, for example
brownies, scouts, sea cadets, U3A, home schooling groups etc.
The visit can be taylor made to suit the age and particular interests
of the group.
 

- Provide a speaker for a talk

In past years we have:

- Visited local primary schools, working with the teachers, showing educational
archaeological samples, digging box etc.
 

- Worked with the Kent High Weald and Southborough Society on their
Southborough Common Project (2018-19), running 8 half day taster sessions
during the summer holidays. We also had a display at their exhibition in
St Peter's church covering the whole project in the autumn of 2019.
 

- Taken part in the Heritage Week each September, with open visits to our
current excavation. In 2019 we attracted nearly 80 visitors over 2 days.

                                                        - Taken part in the annual Archeology festival every August, with open days
                                                        to our site.

                                                        - Held public talks about the history of the Southborough Valley and our
                                                        excavations.
